UPDATE JULY 27, 2010 : TORRES IS STAYING AT LIVERPOOL!!

Roy Hodgson “He has told us that he is looking forward to Monday, looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season. That is what I know so other reports, I would suggest, are erroneous.”

Fernando Torres - will he stay or go?

Over the past few days newspaper speculation has been rife as to whether Fernando Torres will stay at Liverpool or decide to leave.

Kenny Dalglish feels he will stay, Hodgson says he’s done all he can to keep him and Torres himself has remained silent. It’s simply a case of no one knows but Torres himself, but even that may not be true. At the heart of Torres’s concern, it seems, is the American ownership and the future of the club and no one can fault him for that.

But if Torres does decide to leave would that be the disaster we all think it would be? In an interview with the BBC Mark Lawrenson feels Liverpool haven’t got the games out of him through injury, which is true, and selling him would allow Liverpool to buy two, possibly three top class players as replacements. When you look at the statistics Torres played only 63% (24) of league games in 2008-09 and 58% (22) in 2009/10. However, in those two season he scored 14 goals (a 58% scoring rate ) and 18 (82%). And that’s what makes Torres such an incredible player. When he’s fully fit he is phenomenal.

Personally, I’m desperate for Torres to stay. I love watching him play, he scores incredible goals (I was right behind him when he scored that fantastic goal against Blackburn at Anfield) and it’s fantastic having such a tremendous striker playing for Liverpool.

Let’s just hope Torres decides to give Roy Hodgson an opportunity and that those American leeches disappear soon.
