I was fortunate to be in Halifax, Nova Scotia recently and came across Rogues Roost Micro-Brewery on Spring Garden Road. It’s a basic pub with good food and decor that wouldn’t win any prizes but in my mind that’s exactly how a character pub should be, basic decor with a great atmosphere and great beer. The micro-brewery has been established for 9 years.
Speaking of beers, Rogues Roost offers Rogue’s Red, Bulldog Brown, Raspberry Wheat, Cream Ale, Oatmeal Stout and India Pale Ale. Being a pale ale kind of guy I went for the IPA and was extremely pleased with my choice. Looks-wise the beer was perfect being a nice copper colour and the hoppiness was just right and not too over powering even though they describe it as ‘intense’. The sad news is that the only place you can get their beers is in the pub as they don’t bottle or sell it anywhere else.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try the other beers so I have that to look forward to on my next visit. But if you do find yourself in Halifax do yourself a favour. After going to see the Alexander Keith’s Brewery, especially to admire the wonderful old building its in, head to Rogues Roost Micro-Brewery for ‘real’ pint of craft beer. You wont be disappointed.

You forgot to mention Garrison!!
Garrison is a micro-brewery on the historic pier-front of Halifax. It’s this amazing up and comer in the micro-brewery world. I suggest trying their IPA it’s a real IPA that you need to taste and experience to appreciate. With everything from Raspberry Wheat to Tall-ships it’s amazing
Amazing.
I did have a few pints of Garrison when I was in Halifax but not at the brewery. It was excellent so next time I’m there it’s top of the list Ashley.
